Galveston County Daily News, July 27, 2007 GALVESTON -- Having served two terms as chairman of the board of directors for The Jesse Tree, it was my recent privilege to pass the gavel into the capable hand of Madeleine Baker. Reflecting on these active years at The Jesse Tree, I am pleased to recall several accomplishments that were made possible through the generosity of the people of Galveston County, our great state of Texas and concerned citizens from around the country: Establishing the Bolivar branch intake center and Friday Food Fairs to serve the people of Bolivar Peninsula and purchasing the property in 2005; Retiring the note on the main office building at 2622 Market St. in Galveston; Successfully participating in the Community Access Program to expand access to medical care and social services for uninsured Galvestonians. This resulted in a collaborative relationship with the University of Texas Medical Branch's office of community outreach and the Galveston County Health District to continue to offer diabetes management classes in both English and Spanish.
