GALVESTON, Texas - Summer camp isn't just for kids. Seniors in Galveston County have their own camp scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 23, at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, 2803 53rd St. Scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the camp is free and open to seniors and caregivers.

At least 90 organizations are participating in Senior Summer Camp 2007, ranging from governmental agencies to insurance companies and health agencies. In addition, 14 presentations are planned with topics that include "Cosmetic Procedures to Reduce the Signs of Aging" to "Reverse Mortgage vs. Home Equity Loan - Financing Your Retirement."

"A special focus this year is elder fraud," said Margaret L. Davis, a community liaison with Senior Services at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. "Since fraud is running rampant with the senior population at all income levels and ages, we're discussing some legal aspects of life to help educate seniors and make them more wary."

Shoshana Thoma-Isgur, an enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, will present "Protect Yourself Against Investment Fraud," Vanessa Kimbrough, an inspector with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, will present "Protect Youself - Fraud and Mail Theft," and Mary Southwick, of the Better Business Bureau, will present "Health Care Fraud and Medicare Part D Update."

Registration is not required for the camp. Those who attend are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.

The summer camp is sponsored by UTMB Senior Services, Libbie's Place, Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, Senior News, Humana MarketPoint and Texas HealthSpring. For more information, please contact Libbie's Place at (409) 741-2538, or UTMB Senior Services at (409) 747-3377.
