GALVESTON, Texas - Due to the exhibit's popularity, Moody Gardens will continue to feature the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Children's Hospital Art Stars Program through January 2008. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, was scheduled to end after Labor Day.
According to John Zendt, general manager of Moody Gardens, the exhibit was available to 171,000 visitors to the IMAX theater from June through August, and has been very well received by the public.
Throughout the year, patients at Children's Hospital create artwork that they entrust to the UTMB Children's Health Art Stars Program. Dr. Frederick S. Huang, director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UTMB, established the program two years ago. Its mission is to raise awareness about the healing influence of art, to celebrate the creativity of children and to mobilize community support for their artistic endeavors.
This year's Art Stars collection features 25 designs. Note cards featuring artwork from the Art Stars collection are available at the exhibit in packets of eight for $10. T-shirts are also available in the Moody Gardens gift shop. All proceeds benefit the patients and programs of UTMB Children's Hospital. For more information, please visit www.utmbstarchild.org.
