Galveston County Daily News, Sept. 19, 2007 Pedro Fernandez-Funez, an assistant professor of neurology at UTMB, to receive a five-year, $1.5 million NIH Director's New Innovator Award. Fernandez-Funez won his grant with a proposal to study prion diseases using genetically modified fruit flies and laboratory mice.
