GALVESTON, Texas — A healthy dose of fun and educational activities for the entire family will be available at the 12th Annual Galveston County Health Fair, Saturday, March 4, in the parking lot of Academy Sports and Outdoors at 45th and Seawall Blvd. on Galveston Island. Students from all four schools at the University of Texas Medical Branch organize the health fair each year to benefit the health of the entire Galveston County community.

Children and adults are invited to take advantage of free health screenings including vision, cholesterol, diabetes, anemia, lung function tests, and blood pressure checks and visit more than 60 informational booths. All participants will be eligible to win a door prize. Entertainment will include Burnett Elementary Choir, Weis Middle School Owelettes Dance Team, Boys & Girls Club Praise Dancers, Ishmael Robles Karate, Yoga and Belly Dancing demonstration and the UTMB acapella singing group Syncope. UTMB’s Hooty the Owl, Dr. Dolphin, and the Tooth Fairy will be there to entertain the kids. The UTMB Blood Donor Coach will be onsite. Donors must be at least 17 yrs. old, have a photo I.D., and be in good health. Each donor will receive a gift.

Island Transit will provide free bus service to the health fair from several island locations. Service will begin at 9 a.m. with the last bus leaving at 1:30 p.m. Service locations will be at Magnolia Homes at 1601 Strand, Wright Cuney Park at 718 41st Street, Holland House at 2810 61st Street, Oleander Homes at 5228 Broadway, St. Vincent’s House at 2817 Post office and Gulf Breeze Apartments at 1211 31st Street.
