Rumors raise fears about BOI birthrates December 10, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, Dec. 8, 2007 When rumors began spreading that UTMB was getting out of the baby-delivering business, posing an imminent threat to the BOI birthrate, e-mails flew, phones rang and meetings with community leaders were scheduled. Medical branch officials say the outcry is caused by misinformation about new policies and that the teaching hospital still is very much in the labor and delivery business. Medical branch doctors deliver about 7,100 babies a year. In fact, on Friday, before lunch, the medical branch reported having 54 babies in the nursery and 12 women in labor. « Back | The Newsroom »
