GALVESTON, Texas - The Institute for the Medical Humanities Theater Outreach and Education program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, along with UTMB Community Health Services and Teen Health Centers Inc., will present one free performance of "Risk" at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Nessler Center in Texas City.

"Risk" is a drama about the conflicts and concerns of being a teen in a world with AIDS/HIV, written by Cheryl L. Kaplan and directed by Erin Kidwell.

According to Kaplan, director of the Theater Outreach and Education program, the goal of the play is to get important information about prevention and living with AIDS/HIV to high school students, and perhaps even junior high school students.

Kaplan received grant funding from the Society for the Arts in Health Care to write and perform a play for teens and 'tweens on the realities of HIV and AIDS. She hopes to travel to school districts and youth organizations throughout Galveston County and beyond to perform "RISK."

The show was originally performed for the Gulf Coast AIDS Coalition's commemoration of World AIDS Day 2007 and for select students at Ball High School in the Galveston Independent School District.

The performance is free and open to the public. Please call Irene Weedman in the UTMB Office of Community Health Services at (409) 747-0817 to reserve your place. The Nessler Center, Wings of Heritage Room, is located at 2010 Fifth Ave. N., in Texas City.
