GALVESTON, Texas - Dr. Katrina Parker, recently named one of H Magazine's "Top Docs in Houston for Kids," has written a book for teenagers called "Living with Diabetes."
Parker, a pediatric endocrinologist in Children's Hospital at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, answers common questions about diabetes that may be overwhelming and confusing to teens.
The book focuses on how to recognize diabetes and obtain a diagnosis, the basics of blood sugar, how to manage diabetes at school and the importance of nutrition and exercise. Parker also discusses medications and possible complications from the disease and provides a listing of support groups and associations.
