Austin American-Statesman, Feb. 13, 2008 An Austin branch of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is the "most likely" option for establishing a medical school in Austin, and a decision on whether and how to proceed could come in four to six months, according to the head of health affairs for the UT System. Substantial portions of programs in Austin sponsored by UTMB would likely be transferred to UT Southwestern, according to Kenneth Shine, executive vice chancellor of UT System.
