GALVESTON, Texas - A barbecue cook-off to benefit the radiation oncology department in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Cancer Center is planned for March 28-29 at Ray's Bayou Bar and Grill, 6310 Heards Lane, in Galveston. Proceeds from the charity event will be used to purchase special recliners for radiation patients.
The cook-off features five categories of competition: seafood, ribs, chicken, pork and beef. The entry fee $25 per team per event or $115 to compete in all five categories. To enter the cook-off, call (409) 744-4644 or e-mail dmonford@yahoo.com.
Attendance at the cook-off is free and open to the public. A domino tournament is planned at 7 p.m. Friday, March 28. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, the schedule calls for a horseshoe tournament in the morning, music starting at noon and a silent auction to benefit the UTMB Cancer Center.
