JAMA, March 26, 2008 Conflicting clinical trial findings announced through news releases and press conferences have the diabetes care community wondering about the possible dangers of aggressively lowering blood glucose below the levels recommended in current guidelines.  Dr. Howard Brody, director of the Institute for the Medical Humanities at UTMB, is troubled that physicians are receiving medical information by press release without the vetting process provided by peer-reviewed journals.
