Beaumont Enterprise, March 27, 2008 BEAUMONT - Those with a bad back need not apply to NASA's Bed Rest Project. That's because for 21 to 90 days subjects must conduct all their daily living lying down - from eating to showering to using the restroom. Lying down with a head tilt of negative six degrees simulates the weightlessness astronauts experience in space and causes the same physiological effects zero gravity has on the human body, such as muscular atrophy and bone loss. The study has been ongoing for the past three years at UTMB.
