KHOU-TV, Channel 11 Houston, June 20, 2008 Ameera Shahmani was a security officer working for the United States in Iraq when she was injured in 2004 by a car bomb.  She sustained severe injuries to her hands and sought permission to come to the United States where she hoped that American doctors could help her regain some use of her hands.  On Friday, June 20 a team of UTMB doctors led by Dr. David Herndon told Shahmani that they could help her, and her first surgery here is scheduled for July 16.
