GALVESTON, Texas - Linda Pilzner Vaclavik has been named chairwoman of the advisory council of the School of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. 

Vaclavik was named the school's distinguished alumna in 2006 and received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the school in 1973.

She established a charitable foundation to adapt homes for people with disabilities and a memory garden for previous hospital patients. She has been active in legislative affairs at both the state and national levels, serving on the Regulatory Affairs Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association and as national president of the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulations. Vaclavik served as executive director of the Texas Advisory Board of Occupational Therapy and as administrator of the Victoria Warm Springs Hospital. In her community, she serves on the board for Historic Old Town Shiner, and was recently elected president of the Pilot Club of Shiner. She has been a member of the School of Allied Health Sciences Advisory Council since 2002 and has been a strong advocate of the occupational therapy program, identifying potential new areas for faculty practice.

Vaclavik lives with her husband, Jimmie, in Shiner. Their daughter, Lauren, earned a master's degree in occupational therapy from UTMB
