  • Vicki S. Freeman, professor of clinical laboratory sciences, named as a 2008 Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation.
  • Dr. Karen Szauter, associate professor in the internal medicine and preventive medicine and community health departments, has received the Association of Standardized Patient Educators' Outstanding Educator Award.
  • Dr. Oscar Suman, associate professor of surgery, will be appointed the holder of the Leon Hess Professorship for Burn Injuries Research.
  • The UTMB University Eye Center at Friendswood, the first multispecialty ophthalmology treatment center to serve the Friendswood area, is now open.
