Longtime UTMB employee saved two A&M students when sailboat capsized

Austin American Statesman, July 25, 2008 Roger Stone, an assistant coach and safety officer for the Texas A&M University at Galveston sailing team, saved two students but lost his own life when the Cynthia Woods capsized in the Gulf of Mexico last month.  University of Texas System regents meeting in Austin Thursday named a hero award in honor of Roger Stone who died last month when a sailboat capsized.  Stone, 53, was a 28-year employee of UTMB. The Roger Winslow Stone Hero Award will be given "to other university employees who perpetuate his memory by demonstrating extraordinary courage and self-sacrifice in service to others," said H. Scott Caven Jr., chairman of the regents.
