Sanger woman in coma center of wide dispute Fresno Bee, July 26, 2008 UTMB's Dr. William Winslade is quoted in this article about a California woman in a coma who is in the middle of a legal tussle as to whether she should continue to be kept on life support.  The legal issue is whether a government agency should be able to overrule family members and withhold life support. A Fresno County agency became involved after a hospital became concerned that the woman's husband was not making decisions related to his wife's health care.  The county was appointed her guardian and her life support was removed and then reinstated after she lived beyond the time that the county thought that she would. "There is no nationwide consensus on this," Winslade said about these types of medical ethics situations. The article was reprinted in several California newspapers and Web sites, including the Ventura County Star at http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/jul/28/fresno-case-similar-to-schiavo-issues/
