GALVESTON, Texas - With Tropical Storm Edouard in the Gulf of Mexico, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has activated its emergency command center and is taking the following actions:
- No evacuation of patients or employees is planned.
- All schools will close by noon Monday. Students should plan on returning to class Wednesday morning.
- All clinics will close by 5 p.m. Monday. Clinics are expected to resume operations Wednesday morning.
- All day and elective surgeries scheduled for Tuesday will be cancelled.
- In accordance with UTMB's weather emergency plan, a phased shut-down of all laboratories and measures needed to secure the biocontainment laboratories is in progress. This staged process involves starting no new experiments; terminating experiments in progress; securing all pathogens; and decontaminating laboratory rooms.
