The McAllen Monitor, Aug. 18, 2008 UTMB's Dr. Angela Gardner is quoted in this article about minor-care or fast-track clinics in emergency rooms. While some hospital officials in South Texas vouch that these types of clinics reduce a patient's waiting time, Gardner points out that most of the country's emergency rooms remain overcrowded and that patients still face long waits. Most patients are too sick to be seen in a fast-track clinic, Gardner said. "If you see 100 people a day, and 90 of them are very sick, it's going to take longer, and most won't qualify for fast track," Gardner said.
