GALVESTON, Texas - Even though Hurricane Ike washed out this year's Salute to Nursing Golf Tournament and Auction Party, more than $54,000 was raised through sponsorships and donations. The event had been scheduled for Oct. 10. The money will be distributed to 60 students in the accelerated BACC2 program. Each student will receive $1,000 to help with educational expenses. The balance of the amount will be covered by additional scholarship funds. "In the wake of Ike, it is nice to know that we are still able to assist our nursing students with their financial needs," said Pamela G. Watson, dean of the School of Nursing.
