Houston Chronicle, Nov. 19, 2008 Layoffs of UTMB employees began Tuesday as the university continues to respond to the devastation left by Hurricane Ike. Several employees are interviewed. The layoffs of approximately 3,000 employees are expected to reduce costs by $20 million per month. A consulting firm has been contracted to help develop a new business plan for the university.
