Workers anxieties grow as UTMB begins layoffs November 19, 2008 Houston Chronicle, Nov. 19, 2008 Layoffs of UTMB employees began Tuesday as the university continues to respond to the devastation left by Hurricane Ike. Several employees are interviewed. The layoffs of approximately 3,000 employees are expected to reduce costs by $20 million per month.
