Beaumont Enterprise, Nov. 20, 2008 Rural counties throughout Southeast Texas are caught in limbo since the main hospital they use for critical health care was heavily damaged in Hurricane Ike and now faces a staff cut that will slash its size. "This is an ongoing, costly problem," said Elna Christopher, spokeswoman for the Texas Association of Counties. "I think this is going to be an emergency issue when the (state) Legislature meets."
