Houston Chronicle, Nov. 23, 2008 In a letter to the editor, UTMB's Dr. Vicki Schnadig wrote, in part,: "Sadly, UTMB employee layoffs will not only increase the population of unemployed Galveston residents (many cannot afford to commute to sites off the island), but potentially deprive those with chronic underlying medical conditions of health care benefits owing to their being declared uninsurable. We need medical centers devoted to universal medical care. We need UTMB. This is what I believe."
