Galveston County Daily News, Nov. 24, 2008 This guest column by the director of business development for the Mainland Medical Center mentioned that the temporary closing of John Sealy Hospital resulted in unprecedented cooperation between UTMB and the MMC. From the column: "After the storm passed, it became evident that UTMB would be unable to reopen as we knew it. Immediately, and for the first time in the history of both institutions, the melding of two cultures began as MMC and UTMB feverishly began working together to build a partnership totally focused on the health care needs of patients who now had nowhere to turn."
