Houston Chronicle, Nov. 25, 2008 UTMB's Dr. Brian Zachariah said that it was his understanding that layoffs in the emergency department will downgrade UTMB's Level 1 Trauma Center status. In addition, UTMB's David Marshall said that 20 of John Sealy Hospital's 25 operating rooms were in use before the storm, but only 12 opened Monday, he said. Ten of those were closed after tests showed substandard air quality.
