Vacations can be health hazards December 3, 2008 Galveston County Daily News, Dec. 2, 2008 In his weekly column, Dr. Michael Warren says that travelers should be prepared in case they get sick while on vacation, especially outside the United States. "Know your body and its limitations. Choose a place that suits your health. If you burn easily in the sun, avoid tropical climates. Vacations in high altitudes are not advisable for people with heart trouble. ...Plan ahead and assume the worst. Most people plan for the best, knowing the names of the best restaurants and whitest beaches. But they've no idea what to do if they fall ill, or even what kind of health care is provided.
