The board clarifies December 9, 2008 Houston Chronicle, Dec. 9, 2008 H. Scott Caven Jr., chairman of The University of Texas System Board of Regents, in this guest column, wrote why the panel had to take action that led to the reduction in force at UTMB and reiterated the board's support for UTMB. He noted that the decision was painful but necessary to ensure UTMB's future. "First, the board of regents has made clear its commitment to keeping UTMB and its teaching, research and clinical missions a vibrant part of Galveston's future. ... The UT System continues to work closely with UTMB officials as efforts move forward to rebuild a dynamic, financially-stable and comprehensive health institution."
