Study: Move UTMB beds inland February 12, 2009 Austin American-Statesman, Feb. 12, 2009 This article is about a consulting firm's report to the UT System Board of Regents that recommends shifting all inpatients beds to League City as the best way to preserve UTMB's financial future. The firm made several other recommendations, including splitting patient beds between Galveston Island and League City. Dr. David L. Callender, in talking about the recommendations, said, "I'm biased. I'm a Galvestonian. I'm a native Texan. I would love to see an inpatient facility of some kind on the island."
