This guest column urges that UTMB’s Level 1 trauma center be reestablished as soon as possible. ”If one critical event (plane crash, major car pileup) were to occur in the surrounding communities, UTMB could not respond and save lives. It must be resurrected; we need a Level 1 emergency room to serve Galveston as well as the surrounding counties that UTMB has historically served.”
