Jim Pitts, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Richard Raymond, vice chairman of the committee, toured UTMB on Feb. 20, to view Hurricane Ike damage and got a first-hand look at programs of excellence at John Sealy Hospital, the Galveston National Laboratory and campus educational facilities.
They also met with medical students and Dr. Garland D. Anderson, executive vice president, provost and dean, School of Medicine; Dr. Pamela G. Watson, vice president for education and dean, School of Nursing; Dr. Elizabeth Protas, dean, School of Health Professions; and Dr. Cary W. Cooper, dean, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The committee handles all of the House’s state budget issues, including Hurricane Ike recovery and UTMB’s appropriation for the biennium beginning September 2009.
