The Harris County Medical Society issued a news release this week asking state lawmakers to fund the creation of a major trauma center to help treat patients who have crowded Houston-area emergency rooms since Hurricane Ike because UTMB is no longer a Level 1 Trauma Center. The society said that St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Houston has volunteered to become a trauma center. The article does not have any comments from any lawmakers who would have to approve this proposal.
