Galveston County Daily News, March 28, 2009UTMB’s Dr. Michael Stone and Dr. Nitza Cintron are quoted in this article about the lingering mental and physical effects on people as a result of Hurricane Ike. Stone: “It’s very unrealistic to think we could bounce back in six months and be fine. We’ve learned from Katrina it can take years to get back to normal psychologically and physically.” Cintron: “I had some patients holding back, and you could see they were shaking and wanted to cry. I tell them, ‘It’s OK to cry.’ Men, women, they just start crying, and I think that helps a lot.”
