A chance to consider the 'big one'

UTMB’s Dr. Howard Brody writes in a guest editorial that we should consider the current swine flu outbreak, while not as severe presently as thought, as a dry run for when a truly terrible virus spreads around the world. “We must, of course, spread accurate information about the present outbreak. But this is also a rare opportunity to familiarize our community with the general sorts of steps that would be brought out in the case of a truly severe form of flu. If we did not regard the swine flu as a practice run for the “big one,” I think we would be missing a huge opportunity.
