Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 04/28/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=fac3790e1f2ece52 Dr. Patricia Beach, director of the division of general pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch, understands that it would be difficult for parents to curb TV watching if it is already out of hand. Yet she urges all parents in the county to monitor their children’s screen time – including television and video games. “There is enough data out there to show the effects on young children, from aggressive and violent behavior, and now obesity,” she said. “It’s a tough decision but, if your child has a TV set in the bedroom, the first thing you have to do is take it out. Even if your child is watching wonderful educational programming, six hours a day is too much.”
