UTMB Drs. Sally Robinson and Keith Bly, in their Keeping Kids Healthy column, advise parents on how to protect children from the sun. Providing information from the Academy of Pediatrics, the doctors write that infants younger than six months should wear protective lightweight long pants/sleeves and brimmed hats, use a minimal amount of 15 SPF to areas such as the infant's face and back of hands. For young children, sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before going outside.
