UTMB Drs. Sally Robinson and Keith Bly provide some common sense advice to parents, such as limiting a child's play to shaded areas, to help avoid heatstroke. But if it does happen, they say, "[t]he first thing that you need to do is cool your child down. Take them indoors and have them drink water if they're not unconscious. Soak your child's entire body in cool water or give your child a sponge bath using cool water. Apply ice packs to the head, neck, armpits and groin."
