UTMB's Raul Reyes is quoted in this article in which a lawyer representing Jefferson County says that a proposed contract for treatment of indigent residents of Jefferson County would create a financial burden for the county because it does not have a cap of $30,000 or 30 days for treatment of patients. "Reyes said the proposed contract does not create a situation of unlimited liability. Rather, it ensures that the hospital will get paid for all services that it provides. Furthermore, he said, the hospital would only provide services authorized by the counties. ‘In other words, Jefferson County's going to be in the driver's seat," Reyes said by phone. "We want to be financially responsible. We want to be able to charge for services that we provide.'"
