GALVESTON - Howard M. Rootenberg, a rare book specialist, will speak at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston about the importance of academic medical centers maintaining a library that includes volumes about the history of medicine as well as rare book collections.
Rootenberg will focus his presentation on the Truman G. Blocker Jr. History of Medicine Collections in the Moody Medical Library at UTMB. The presentation is at 5:15 p.m. July 16 in Levin Hall. The event is open to the public and parking is available in the garage located at Ninth and Market streets
Rootenberg is president of B & L Rootenberg Fine and Rare Books in Sherman Oaks, Calif. The company is among the leading specialists in the fields of science, medicine, technology and natural history.

Anderson, provost and executive vice president of UTMB. "We wanted the UTMB and Galveston communities to have an opportunity to hear more about the rare items that are part of the collections."
The collection includes medical archives, prints, portraits, manuscripts, microscopes, medical instruments and more than 20,000 rare book titles, including 33 titles printed before 1501.
