Heber Taylor, editor of the Galveston County Daily News, writes that elected officials and civic leaders need to speak up and drum up support for the creation of a hospital district. Taylor notes that the Legislature said it would provide $150 million for UTMB contingent upon the creation of a district. "One reader recalled hearing city leaders in Galveston appearing before the University of Texas regents. With the cameras rolling, they promised to do everything in their power to help pass a hospital district. ‘So where are they now?' the reader asked. ‘Do we have an epidemic of laryngitis?'"
