UTMB's Dr. Ben Raimer is mentioned in this article about county commissioners deciding to include all of Galveston County in a vote to create a hospital district. When lawmakers recently approved $150 million for UTMB to build a new hospital, they also told the county that it would have to pay more to take care of its uninsured residents, hence, the hospital district vote. Raimer estimates that there about 90,000 uninsured residents in Galveston County.
