Galveston County commissioners approved a 6-cent tax rate increase to fund hospital care for the county’s uninsured residents who earn less than 100 percent of the federal poverty level. The vote also meets the requirements set by the Legislature before $150 million can be released to help UTMB recover from Hurricane Ike.
