UTMB’s “Medical Discovery News” has received another honor, this time being awarded a media excellence award by the Texas Public Health Association.

The Public Health Award for Media Excellence, PHAME, was given in the “Electronic-Radio” category for significantly advancing the understanding and support of public health issues.

“Congratulations to Drs. David Niesel and Norbert Herzog for receiving the only PHAME award given by the Texas Public Health Association this year,” said Dr. Garland D. Anderson, executive vice president and provost of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. “This prestigious award demonstrates that ‘Medical Discovery News’ advances community understanding and support for public health through its interpretation of issues affecting public health in our state and the nation.”

The award will be presented Thursday, April 16, in Austin.

Niesel and Herzog each week provide insights into a broad range of biomedical science topics in a series of two-minute episodes airing on numerous stations across the country and in Mexico. The program recently received the 2009 Award of Excellence from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
