The School of Nursing Alumni Association of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston honored its distinguished alumna, named three alumni to its hall of fame and posthumously presented its Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Award. The School of Nursing Awards Presentation and Tea was held at Moody Gardens on April 24 in conjunction with homecoming activities.
Ellen Fineout-Overholt, class of 1983, was named the distinguished alumna. Jennifer Nitschmann, class of 1982, Col. John S. Murray, class of 1996, and Col. Karen Weis, class of 1997, were inducted into the alumni hall of fame. The Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Award was presented posthumously to Susan McConnell, classes of 1996 and 1998. McConnell died in February.
Four UTMB executives received certificates of appreciation for their leadership during Hurricane Ike. They are Pamela G. Watson, dean of the School of Nursing; Karen Sexton, interim executive vice president and CEO of UTMB Health System, David Marshall, assistant vice president for patient care and chief nursing officer, and Cheryl Day, director of patient care and assistant CNO.
