Dr. Alexander Duarte, director of the pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, was elected president of the Texas Transplantation Society during the society’s annual meeting last month in San Antonio.
Duarte was named a Texas Super Doctor by Texas Monthly in 2007. He is a member of UTMB’s Texas Transplant Center and board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
Dr. Shawn P. Nishi, a pulmonary and critical care fellow at UTMB, won the society’s Case Presentation contest for her entry titled “Successful Treatment of a Concurrent Lung Infection with Atypical Aspergillus and Nocardia spp in a Single-lung Recipient.”
