Parkland assumes control of jail health March 2, 2006 Dallas Business Journal (Internet / Print) 03/02/06 http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2006/02/27/daily26.html Parkland Health & Hospital System is now the official health care provider for the Dallas County jail system. The public hospital took over services performed by the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. Along with control, Parkland now has 130 new employees on its payroll. Last summer, the Dallas County Commissioners Court decided Parkland should be charged with fixing the broken jail health system. On Tuesday, Parkland's Board of Managers approved a $943,200, three-year contract with UTMB to continue use of the electronic medical record system in Dallas County adult jail. UTMB will continue to maintain and administer the system. Parkland can terminate the contract early if it chooses or when it decides what electronic system to use in the future. « Back | The Newsroom »
