Concert benefits St. Vincent's clinic March 3, 2006 Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 03/03/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=7539c6a8b5762617 Iranian-born Anousheh Ashouri has been dancing traditional Persian dance since her childhood. But tonight she will perform in public for the first time, accompanied by recorded instrumental music by a popular Persian violinist. The dance routine Ashouri will present at The Grand 1894 Opera House involves intricate hand movements, hip-shaking similar to belly dancing and a slow melodic feel. “In my spare time, I try to do as much dance as I can,” said the third-year medical student. “I think it’s really relaxing and it shapes your body.” Her act, one of 20 scheduled performances by students and faculty members from the University of Texas Medical Branch, will help raise money for the St. Vincent’s Free Clinic in Galveston. The facility provides discounted health care services to the underprivileged. « Back | The Newsroom »
