Exhibit prompts debate about use of cadavers in displays March 6, 2006 Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Internet / Print) 03/06/06 http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/living/health/14023806.htm Once upon a time, people believed the human body contained secrets inappropriate for the living to know. A controversial new exhibit in Houston peels away the skin and taboo to shed light on the cobweb of vessels and nerves, the elastic strings of red and white muscles, and the machinery of the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. Medical ethicists seem divided over "Body Worlds." "It gives people an appreciation for the beauty of the human body," said Ron Carson, a professor of ethics and health policy at the University of Texas Medical Branch's Institute for the Medical Humanities. "Most people don't really have an opportunity to do that unless they're a physician or an anatomist." Others have denounced the show as a P.T. Barnum-like stunt. « Back | The Newsroom »
