Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 03/08/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=7b5f6d182eb7821d Karen Davis made an appearance in Galveston this week to discuss options for improving health insurance coverage. “There is no place better than Texas to talk about this as a problem,” she said. “On all measures, Texas ranks considerably behind other states.” Davis, president of the New York City-based Commonwealth Fund, spoke to an audience of about 60 people Monday on the campus of the University of Texas Medical Branch. “We need to make closing the gaps in coverage our No. 1 priority,” she said. Davis said the number of Americans without health insurance had risen from 40 million in 2000 to 46 million in 2004.
