Watson, R.N., Sc.D., dean and professor of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston’s School of Nursing, said nursing schools continue to experience a shortage of faculty. At the moment the UTMB School of Nursing is looking to fill four full0time undergraduate faculty positions and one graduate-level position. “In addition, we constantly are in need of part-time clinical faculty who teach our students on-site in various clinical settings,” Watson said. “The Texas Board of Nurse Examiners requires that clinically, we have one faculty member for every 10 students. However, we strive to create groups of eight students because of the high risk/high acuity levels of the patients in the clinical settings we use.”
