Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 02/19/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=1b5c596dd19bdbf3 The 5K was won by Alex Hoeg in 17:53 and Lindie Nanninga in 23:06. Nanninga was both the first woman across the finish line and the first masters woman. Nanninga was marking a return to racing after a long hiatus. “I just started running again,” Nanninga said. “I used to run a lot of races, but I’ve laid low for about seven years.” She now focuses more on triathlons. Nanninga does some of her training with other UTMB employees who also ran the Mardi Gras race, including Tonya Arnold and Tom Blackwell. Her training for the 5K consisted of 2-3 runs per week with a variety of cross training. UTMB was well-represented in both the 5K and the 10K, with medal-winning finishes by students Pouya Afshar, Alisa Kachikis, Brooke Kramer and Jason Vertrees.
